It’s crazy to think that one year ago I had started on the trip of a lifetime. Starting this amazing RTW trip in Tokyo, Japan filled with emotions and 6 months of the unknown; and an underlying goal of visiting 30 countries before I turned 30. I have absolutely no idea how the explorers of hundreds of years ago did it. Saying goodbye to family and friends for months, if not years, with no knowledge of what was ahead of them. Is the world flat? There’s only one way to find out!
I have no regrets in my decision to take this trip.
What did I miss out on? Nothing. What did I gain? A lifetime of memories and experiences. The people I met along the way were amazing! So many different stories and perspectives from all over the world, all with similar objectives to get out and see the world and experience new things. The people I traveled with along the way are truly what made the trip special, and here’s a special thank you to all of those that made this such a rewarding experience.
Since returning to the states I have found gainful employment, and slid back into my daily routine, almost as if nothing changed. The first couple of months upon re-entry into the workforce was tough, and there was certainly an adjustment period. Very often I’d be sitting at my desk thinking to myself how I could have been eating sushi fresh from Tsukiji, going on Safari in South Africa, or riding a hot air balloon in Cappadocia, or maybe even a four-hand-blind massage in a Russian vacation town in Vietnam. The list goes on, and while my bucket list has surely gotten smaller, the world is an amazingly large place and I have a lot more to see!
In hindsight I should have written on the blog more, or at least kept a journal to myself. My writing doesn’t feel as sharp as it did when I was in the swing of things, but hopefully I can bring life back to the blog. You know what would make that easier? Taking another trip! No, no, no I’m not taking a trip of this magnitude any time soon, but I’d like to take another big trip abroad within the next 3-6 months.
Thanks to all of those who read my blog and provided me with words of encouragement to keep writing. While it was certainly an outlet for myself, and a way of documenting my travels to look back upon. I also wanted to use this for those thinking of taking similar trips, or just curious about other parts of the world in general.
Here’s the million dollar question. The points have been accruing, is another $350 RTW business class ticket in the cards? Only time will tell. Where should I go next?
Here’s a small list of far off places I’d like to see in no particular order.
- San Sebastian, Spain
- Tierra Del Fuego
- Amalfi Coast, Italy
- The Amazon
- The Congo
